Metro Line 1
La Défense
Château de Vincennes
Line 1 is the first line of the French metropolitan network. Opened in 1900 for the Universal Exhibition, it was fully automated in 2013. It connects La Défense - Grande Arche station to Château de Vincennes station, which serves the castle of the same name. Metro line 1 is mostly underground with 2 aerial sections: to cross the Seine between Esplanade de la Défense and Pont de Neuilly, and at Bastille station.
It provides connections to 11 metro lines, RER A, B, and D, Transilien lines L, R, and U, as well as tram lines T2, T3a, and T3b. By getting off at Châtelet, you can reach Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports via RER B. Line 1 also stops at Gare de Lyon.
Several points of interest punctuate the route of line 1: the Arche de la Défense, the Jardin d'Acclimatation, the Palais des Congrès, the Grand Palais, the Louvre Museum, the Marais district... Many tourists take this line to visit the numerous iconic places along the route, such as the Tuileries Garden, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Place de la Concorde...
