A name that has stood the test of time

The name of the station refers to Saint Mary Magdalene and a chapel that was located at this spot in the 12th and 13th centuries. At that time, this former village of farmers was called La Ville-L'Evêque. With its fields, the village was far from resembling the Paris you know today! The chapel was replaced by the impressive Madeleine Church, located just above the metro station.
