A historic name

The names of the metro stations each tell a page of France's history. The Convention metro station takes its name from the nearby street. This street refers to the National Convention, an assembly that governed France for three years, between 1792 and 1795, and founded the First Republic after the French Revolution. Today, the Convention metro station has also given its name to the neighborhood, located in the area of the former village of Vaugirard.
