The heritage of a city steeped in history

The Mairie de Saint-Ouen metro station is located in the center of the city of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. In the late Middle Ages, this small village welcomed the second homes of many wealthy Parisians on vacation. Before becoming an industrial city in the 19th century, several castles were built here. Near the Town Hall, the Château de Saint-Ouen, a classified historical monument, tells the story of the city. It replaced the old Château de Boisfranc in the 1820s, under the orders of Louis XVIII. Since then, Saint-Ouen has gained a significant reputation thanks to its flea markets, which began to develop in the 1870s. Today, more than 5 million visitors come each year to the famous Marché aux Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen for its numerous antique dealers, second-hand dealers, bookstores, thrift stores, and art galleries.

The heart of Saint-Ouen

In the city center, the Mairie de Saint-Ouen is surrounded by several shops, restaurants, and municipal and educational establishments. The neighborhood is home to many administrative buildings such as the Bourse du Travail, the Fernand Lefort Administrative and Social Center, and the Île-de-France Regional Council. The latter actually gave its subtitle to the Mairie de Saint-Ouen - Région Île-de-France station. Less than a 5-minute walk from the metro, you will find the ice rink, the Auguste Delaune Nautical Center, the central library, and the communal cemetery. On the Seine side, it takes about a 7-minute walk from the exit of the Mairie de Saint-Ouen metro station to reach the Château de Saint-Ouen or the Grand parc des Docks. On foot, the Marché aux Puces is 15 minutes away, but bus connections can also take you directly there. Finally, by car, the Stade de France is only 10 minutes from the heart of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine.

Metro lines intersect in the suburbs

Although it is not served by the RER, the Mairie de Saint-Ouen metro station is an important interchange zone in the suburbs. Indeed, it is the first and only station served by two metro lines outside of Paris! It is also an important interchange zone with numerous bus lines serving the city center. All bus stops are located at the exit of the metro, between Place de la République and Esplanade Jean Moulin.
