In the neighborhood
Everything you need, just a few steps from your stop.
As with many stations in Paris, it is the history of the neighborhood that determined the name of the Blanche metro.
Its name is said to be due to a former gypsum quarry in Montmartre. This material, which is used to produce plaster, was transported by carts to the center of Paris, making the walls and streets white in their path. The 'Barrière blanche', then the Place Blanche and the rue Blanche, took this name before the metro was inaugurated in 1902.
The atmosphere of Parisian nights
Surrounded by Place de Clichy and Place Pigalle, the Blanche metro is located in a lively and festive neighborhood, next to Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur.
As soon as you exit the metro, you are greeted by the famous Moulin Rouge. But that's not all. The Blanche station gives you access to all the theaters, cabarets, and performance venues in the neighborhood in just a few minutes. The Trianon and La Cigale, for example, are less than a 10-minute walk away.
The filming locations of a cult film
Attention all film-loving explorers! Have you seen 'Amélie'? Then you will surely recognize the film's settings just a few steps from the station.
In the film, you will see Amélie in the Abbesses and Lamarck-Caulaincourt stations, but the Blanche metro is perfect for finding the filming locations of the film: the shops on the street and the café where Amélie works are 3 minutes from the Blanche station. A little further away, you will also recognize her grocery store, and the Louise Michel square where important scenes were shot.
There are 308 metro stations in Paris and the surrounding suburbs.
