The Invalides
With its impressive golden dome, the Hôtel National des Invalides stands out in the Parisian landscape. Located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, it houses historical monuments, museums, and tombs, including the tomb of Napoleon I. Notably, the Army Museum is located at the Invalides.
Access the Invalides and the Army Museum
The Invalides is a large complex located between Boulevard des Invalides and Boulevard de la Tour-Maubourg. You can access the Esplanade des Invalides via Quai d’Orsay, facing the Alexandre III Bridge.
The Hôtel des Invalides and the Army Museum are accessible through two main entrances:
- 129 Rue de Grenelle, which also leads to the Esplanade des Invalides.
- 2 Place Vauban, facing the dome of the Invalides.
Getting to the Invalides by metro
The Invalides are served by three metro lines:
- Line 8: Get off at La Tour Maubourg metro station, which is a 3-minute walk (200m), or at the Invalides stop, located on the esplanade and 6 minutes from the North entrance of the Hôtel des Invalides (450m).
- Line 13: Get off at Varenne station, which is 4 minutes (300m) from the entrance, or at Invalides station, as with Line 8.
- Line 12: A bit further away, the Assemblée Nationale station allows you to reach the esplanade in a 6-minute walk and the Hôtel des Invalides in 12 minutes (850m).
Taking the bus to the Invalides
Several bus lines serve the 7th arrondissement and the areas around the Invalides, with bus stops near the North entrance (Esplanade side):
- La Tour Maubourg Station: served by bus 28
- Varennes Station: served by line 69
- Invalides Station: served by buses 8, 63, 82, 83, 87, 92, and 93
And stops near the South entrance (Dome side):
- Vauban – Hôtel des Invalides Station: served by buses 82 and 92
- École-militaire Station: served by lines 28, 82, 86, and 92
Which RER to the Invalides?
The domain has its own station located on the Esplanade des Invalides. It is served by RER Line C. Gare des Invalides is thus accessible from the Paris suburbs, including Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and Massy-Palaiseau, facilitating connections from Île-de-France and other areas of the city of Paris.

Opening hours and admission prices for the Invalides
The Invalides complex is open every day from 10 AM to 6 PM and offers a night visit until 10 PM on the first Friday of the month. The site is closed to the public on January 1st, May 1st, and December 25th.
To visit the Invalides, which includes, among other things, the Tomb of Napoleon I, the Dome Church, the Army Museum, and the permanent and temporary collections, the prices are as follows:

- €12 reduced price
- €10 for night visits
