Why fighting harassment is essential

In public transport, everyone should be able to travel safely, whatever their mode of transport: metro, RER, tram, train, bus…
Yet, harassment and sexist and sexual violence remain a reality for many passengers, especially women.

In response to this, Bonjour RATP highlights existing measures to better prevent risky situations and guide victims towards appropriate support solutions. A key objective: to contribute to safer journeys for all.

Victim or witness: 5 concrete ways to act

Whether you are a victim or a witness, there are 5 ways to act:

5 reflexes@3x.webp

1. During the incident: speak immediately to a staff member

In case of harassment in transport, it is important not to stay alone:

· Speak to a staff member (in the station, at the stop, or on board).
· Use a call terminal to get in touch with the teams.

2. During the incident: 3117, a simple reflex

3117 is a dedicated alert number to report any assault or harassment situation on the Île-de-France network.
Available 24/7, it allows for a quick response to the alert and, if necessary, intervention by security teams. You can:

· Call 3117 (free)
· Send an SMS to 31 17 7
· Use the Alerte 3117 mobile app

💡 Are you a witness and unsure? A simple rule: it's better to report.

3. After the incident: submit your testimony

Were you a victim or witness of a sexist or sexual assault and want to testify? A dedicated form is available if the incident occurred on the RATP network:

💡 Your testimony helps to better record and understand what happens in transport, adapt security measures, and improve prevention. Even afterwards, your voice matters.

To provide travelers with concrete tools, RATP is a partner of the Stand Up International program, which offers free online training against harassment.

This training is based on the 5D method, five simple actions to intervene as a witness:
· Distract: divert attention to interrupt the situation
· Delegate: ask for help (staff, driver, other passengers)
· Document: collect information if it is safe
· Direct: intervene directly if the situation allows
· Dialogue: support the victim after the incident
