Memory of World War II

Like many metro stations, its name plunges us into the history of France and the world. The subtitle of the La Courneuve - 8 mai 1945 metro refers to the square located above the station, commemorating the date of the German surrender at the end of World War II. Above the station, at the level of Avenue Paul Vaillant Couturier leading to Place du 8 mai 1945, and near bus line 152, you can see the Resistance Memorial. The inauguration of this large statue followed the opening of the metro station in 1987. It was designed by the artist and Holocaust survivor, Shelomo Selinger. If you get off at La Courneuve station, take exit 3 to discover this tribute to the victims of war and the resistance fighters.
