As its name suggests, the RER station of Nanterre - Préfecture is located just a stone's throw away from the building of the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture. Nanterre is a very ancient city, born in an inhabited area long before Paris! It developed a lot from the 5th century onwards, becoming a place of Christian pilgrimage, and then from 1837, with the first railways and passenger trains.
