What are the differences between HCE and eSE?
HCE (Host Card Emulation) is a software component that allows a mobile phone to emulate the presence of an electronic card. A HCE-compatible mobile phone can therefore act as a transport card when placed on a control terminal. By working in conjunction with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, HCE can transform a mobile phone into a digital ticket or Navigo card.
Before the emergence of HCE, mobile phones that wanted to communicate with a payment or validation terminal had to have an NFC chip with a secure element (eSE). The secure element is a dedicated (physical) component for storing virtual cards.
