Understand the suggested routes
When you search for a route in the Bonjour RATP app, the displayed results take into account the comfort of the journey based on three criteria:
- the total travel time;
- the number of transfers: each change may involve walking, switching between underground and outdoor passages, etc.;
- whether or not you use a bus, whose departure times may be more sensitive to traffic conditions.
In case of disruption on the network, whether planned (for example: maintenance) or unplanned (for example: passenger accident):
- If the route remains traversable despite a slowdown, minor stop delays, or slight modifications, it may still appear in the results because it might be faster or more suitable than other longer routes;
- If there is a traffic interruption on all or part of the route, it will be displayed at the bottom of the results, even if it is a normally used route.
In the context of a major disruption on the network, a "Recommended Route"— sometimes longer than the usual route— may be suggested to prioritize a more comfortable and reliable trip based on crowding and traffic conditions. The goal is to anticipate potential congestion on the most used lines, to minimize difficulties during the journey, and to help you reach your destination under the best conditions.
Note: The modes of transport you may have set in the Bonjour RATP app might not be considered in the "Recommended Route" if no suitable route is available.
The proposed routes may combine several modes of transportation. They are displayed in the following order:
- Routes using only public transportation;
- Routes combining public transportation and alternative modes (for example: bicycle, scooter);
- Exclusively soft mobility routes, by bike or scooter, in the "Travel Differently" section.
The route calculation is carried out in two stages:
- First, we search for the stations closest to the departure point and the arrival point.
This search is performed within a radius around the entered address or your geolocated position.
The results are then ranked by proximity to minimize walking time at the start and at the end.
A compromise is also considered between the departure time of the next train and the distance to reach that departure. - Next, we rank the different routes to optimize your trip by minimizing its difficulty as much as possible, while taking identified disruptions into account.
