When the temperature rises in Paris and the Île-de-France region, Bonjour RATP helps you travel cool. In this article, find out how to identify air-conditioned lines directly in your route search, and locate cool spots around you.
Choose the coolest route at a glance
This summer, when searching for a route with Bonjour RATP, a feature helps guide you to the coolest journeys:
- A snowflake pictogram ❄️ indicates equipped lines
- A Air-conditioned label appears when your entire journey is air-conditioned from start to finish.
A quick glance is all it takes to compare your options and choose the most comfortable route when it's hot!
💡 Please note: today, some lines are only partially equipped. Only lines whose trains are 100% equipped will display the "air-conditioned" label on Bonjour RATP.
Which lines help you stay cool in Île-de-France?
One useful clarification: three systems exist across the network.
- Ventilation: the air is renewed, which improves comfort without really lowering the temperature.
- Cooled ventilation: the air is cooled before being reinjected into the train, lowering the temperature by a few degrees.
- Air conditioning: the most effective, but also the most energy-intensive.
RER and Transilien
Three quarters of RER trains are equipped:
: 100% cooled
: 80% cooled
: 30% air-conditioned (increasing with new trains)
: 75% air-conditioned (target: 90% by year-end)
On the Transilien side, air conditioning already equips all trains on lines 
, with a target of 100% on lines 
. On average, 90% of trains are air-conditioned.
Metro
One in two trains is now equipped with a cooling system, compared with almost none fifteen years ago.

The goal by 2035: all metro lines cooled or air-conditioned. All recent trains are air-conditioned or cooled, and the Grand Paris Express lines will be fully air-conditioned.
💡 Please note: on lines with narrow tunnels, true air conditioning could risk overheating the surrounding air. The choice was therefore made to prioritize cooled ventilation, which is better suited to the infrastructure.

60% of the fleet has a cooling system, a figure that should increase as vehicles are renewed.
Find your "Cooling break" nearby
Need to catch your breath between trips? In the Bonjour RATP app, tap the interactive map from the home page and select the "Cooling break" category: in an instant, you'll locate nearby drinking fountains and shaded areas.
It's the perfect reflex to cool down, rehydrate, and take a break in the shade throughout the day, even away from public transport.
Heatwave: the right habits to adopt
A few simple actions make all the difference during hot weather:
- 💧 Water: bring a reusable bottle and drink regularly. More than 130 drinking fountains are installed in stations across Île-de-France, with many more nearby, which you can locate on the interactive map in the Bonjour RATP app.
- ☂️ Shade: while waiting for the bus or tram, stay in the shade or bring a hat and parasol.
- 🚪 Keep it cool: in an air-conditioned vehicle, do not open the windows so the cool air stays inside.
